Myztro Gaming

July 2018 - April 2022

Past titles: writer, Social Media, Editor in chief, director of digital content

Joining Myztro Gaming

I joined Myztro Gaming in July 2018, and I was immediately put to work, writing coverage on myztro.net for QuakeCon 2018, where Myztro Gaming teams placed 3rd, 7th, and 8th overall.

Day 3 Coverage

Welcoming a World Champion

After QuakeCon, I was tasked with writing a press release welcoming two-time Quake World Champion Nikita “clawz” Marchinsky to the team.

Early Success

Myztro Gaming was on top of the Quake world in Fall 2018, and I assisted in coverage on our podium sweep at ESWC Paris 2018, and fully covered our run at the Italian Esports Open.

RAISY wins it all in Lucca, Italy.

RAISY wins it all in Lucca, Italy.

My first taste of running the Myztro Gaming Twitter account was after IESO 2018, as I had to make the post after RAISY won the tournament.

My full recap of his tournament win can be found here.

New Year, New Roster, New Sponsor.

At the beginning of 2019, I was tasked with writing a press release that announced that the org released 4 of our 6 Quake players and that players GaRpY and HELL had retired from competitive Quake to pursue competitive COD Blackout. RAISY would be joined by newcomer Vengeur a week later, and Myztro began fielding teams in Blackout and Fortnite alongside Quake Champions.

I was also tasked with announcing our new sponsor, Logitech, who had signed on to become the official peripheral sponsor of Myztro Gaming for 2019 and 2020.

Battle Royale

In Mid 2019, I announced our new Fortnite signings, Rasmusenn and Whai, as well as our Blackout team’s transition into Apex Legends.

Promotion: Social Media

In March and April 2019, I was trialed and then promoted to become the main Social Media Manager. I covered Myztro Fortnite’s run for the Fortnite World Cup and all of QuakeCon 2019.

QuakeCon 2019

QuakeCon 2019 was my first ever event that I covered live, in-person.

This QuakeCon would be the launch of the All-New Quake Pro League, where our players RAISY and Vengeur would play for placement, and GaRpY would come out of retirement to play Quake Champions once again. Myztro finished in the Top 4 at QuakeCon, starting a streak of Top 4 placement at every QPL event that still stands today.

Apex Preseason Invitational

Myztro Gaming’s Apex roster of GaRpY, HELL, and ottr were invited to the first ever official Apex Legends LAN event in Krakow, Poland, where they finished in 44th Place Overall out of 80 teams.

QPL Season 1 Stage 1 Finals

After QuakeCon, our three Quake Players seek better placement at the Stage 1 finals at the Italian Esports Open 2019, the same tournament RAISY had won a year before.

GaRpY was relegated out of Pro League, while Vengeur, playing in his home country under Myztro for the first time, finished 8th Overall. RAISY got close to defend his crown, but lost to COOLLER and settled for 2nd place. All tweets and writing can be found on the Preview and Recap posts.

Myztro Weekly Update

I started a weekly series of articles that updated Myztro Gaming fans on happenings at the org, running from October 2019 to June 2020. All articles can be found here.

COVID-19 and Quake Resurgence

The COVID-19 Pandemic forced esports events fully online, and Quake Champions was no exception. I was one of the few people who covered one of the very last in-person esports events, as I covered the QPL Stage 2 Finals at IEM Katowice in February 2020. Players and Staff were the only ones allowed at the venue, as fans were barred due to a government mandate. Without fans, Myztro Gaming placed 2nd and 4th Overall. A full event recap, as well as all my published tweets, can be found here.

First Player Feature

I wrote a feature on one of our Quake players, Marco “Vengeur” Ragusa, and got his thoughts on the Pandemic and more. That article can be found here.

QPL Stage 3 Finals

In the first-ever QPL online finals, Vengeur finished in 4th Place overall. The preview can be found here.

QuakeCon 2020 and the Quake World Championships

QuakeCon in 2020 was the first ever to be held completely online. I helped coordinate watch parties with our Community Manager, and our social media presence was at 100 for the event.

Oh yeah, I also deepfaked all the QPL casters so they can sing Big Time by Big Time Rush. That was fun.

At the end of the competition, RAISY made it to the Grand Finals, and Vengeur had his best showing at QuakeCon and in a QPL Stage Finals ever, being the first Italian in 10 years to make it onto the podium at QuakeCon. A full recap can be found here.

QPL Season 2, Stage 1 Finals

QPL Season 2 kicked off with a bang, with RAISY and Vengeur taking 2nd and 3rd overall in the Europe region. GaRpY made his triumphant return to QPL, relegating toxjq in the first round. Vengeur ended up placing 5th overall in the finals, and RAISY placed 2nd overall after a rematch of the QuakeCon 2020 Grand Finals, taking Team Liquid’s rapha to the brink, losing to the eventual champion 3-4.

QPL Season 2, Stage 2

Stage 2 was an all-around victory for Myztro, as RAISY finished first overall in the Europe region. Vengeur finished 3rd overall in the region as well. GaRpY finished dead last and will face off against teammate and Myztro Quake player HELL in the Stage 2 Finals to find out if he stays or leaves QPL.

The Stage 2 Finals will be broadcast from April 23rd to April 25th. I will update this section with work from this stage final.

Reloading: Myztro’s return to Apex Legends

On May 10, 2021, Myztro signed ChMK, who had qualified to the upcoming Apex Legends Global Series Finals. This brought WrugB, Sanya, and former Myztro Quake pro Xron into the organization after a 456-day hiatus from the scene.

I helped coordinate the creation of the announcement and posted it on social media.

Since that announcement, I have added Apex Legends to my overall coverage.

Quake World Championship 2021

While Vengeur finished 2nd, RAISY finished 5th, and GaRpY finished dead last in the EU region, all three players were looking forward to the Quake World Championship in nid-August. Xron, who also plays Apex from Myztro Gaming, qualified for the championship as a challenger as well.

Before the online finals started, I crafted a marketing campaign titled KINGSLAYERS, after all our player’s ambition to dethrone former belt winners COOLLER, k1llsen, and most importantly rapha, who won the Quake World Championship over RAISY a year prior.

To begin the marketing campaign, I purchased temporary tattoos and showed them off on social media, insinuating they were real.

I also collaborated with Myztro streamer Lana Lane on an art piece of all of our qualified Quake pros with their signature weapons.

Alongside this marketing campaign, I posted and oversaw multiple ways to promote the World Championship.

Finally, World Champions

Vengeur would go on to win QuakeCon 2021, and RAISY would get 2nd Place. This is the first World Championship win for Myztro Gaming, and was the first World Championship in Quake Champions where both players were younger than 27.

I wrote a recap article on Myztro’s website here.

Signing Biinny

Lee “Biinny” Whelan is the fastest Super Mario 64 speedrunner in the UK. On August 27, 2021, we officially signed him to compete for Myztro at speedrunning competitions and to stream his other attempts.

I profiled him in a story shortly after the signing was official here.

Apex Legends Pro League Invite

Myztro’s Apex Legends team received an invite to the second season of the ALGS, in the format of a professional league. I tweeted about it below.

IRONFIST Invitational

On August 28th, we announced that we were hosting a Quake Champions LAN live from London, England from November 26-28. This would be the first Quake Champions LAN since the Quake Pro League Season 1 Stage 2 Finals in February 2020.

Since that initial announcement, we also unveiled the host venue, Red Bull Gaming Sphere in downtown London, as well as the first eight invited players.

I traveled to London to admin the event and to oversee production. With a 7-person team, we were able to produce a world-class event over three days, that saw Rapha take home the first IRONFIST trophy.

London was awesome, finally meeting players I haven’t seen since QuakeCon 2019, and making new friends was the best part. IRONFIST 2022 has been announced since then, so I may be flying out to produce that event.

I also produced a TikTok while we were there, which gained us quite a few followers, and became our most watched TikTok on our page, with 1,400 views.

I even got profiled by Quake news site The Quake Pub. Read the full article here: https://www.quake.pub/index.php?NewsID=34

Other Duties

I assist our streamers and content creators in Myztudio, Myztro Gaming’s content creation wing, with sponsorship deals, technical assistance, and ordering essential supplies from our apparel line and peripherals from Logitech.

I’ve been deemed Myztro’s “official hypeman”, due to my extreme passion for the brand, the players, and the titles we compete in.

On April 1st, 2021, I was named an official player for Myztro, a lifelong goal of mine, and I was signed to play Project Diva for the org as the current world champion. My contract was terminated on April 2nd, 2021 as I retired from competitive Project Diva play, and reassumed my role as Editor in Chief and the Director of Digital Content (this was an April Fools prank, but I did conceptualize, film, and edit everything the night before, as well as posting on the day of.)
